The Fernando Barrios Quintet is mainly a traditional jazz group: hard bop, bebop, cool, etc., yet not forgetting other styles such as fusion, funk, bossa, samba, etc., in which they use their own compositions, as well as arrangements of other themes which range from jazz standards to contemporary composers, like Chick Corea, Bob Mintzer, Herbie Hanckcock, etc.
The quintet was formed in the year 2000, and they have performed at different jazz festivals over the past few years, the most prominent of these being the "festival de jazz de canarias heineken 2000" (Canary Islands Jazz festival) and the "festival de jazz de arona 2007" (Arona Jazz Festival). This last year, apart from rehearsing & perfecting their themes, the quintet have performed at various concerts held at different jazz clubs and at diverse cultural events on the islands, strengthening them even more as a group.
During this year the quintet have recorded their first disc titled "en el mato", which they hope to perform at this jazz festival "Heineken jazz festival 2007".
