The Alabama Dixieland Jazz Band is a group which was formed in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the year 2003. Its musical activity specialises in the genres Dixieland, Hot Jazz, Ragtime & Gospel, with particular attention paid to the works carried out the very first bands from New Orleans in the 20s. "Alabama's" themes cover with emotion & affection the rhythms of the New Orleans of that time, noisy & rowdy yet good-humored & witty. The musicians of this band don't linger over and are not held up by staves & staffs, arrangements, notes & pauses. They go much further than that - to capture in all its extensive expression that marvellous world in and around the Mississippi river, cradle of the most authentic, characteristic & much loved settings of North American music. Such settings that have been the scenes for all kinds of genres that are completely consolidated today. Imagine for a moment the fabulous "When the Saints go Marchin in". A cheerful theme yet bearing in mind that very last journey that we all have to face. For this trip, happy & sad for those who attend; sounds of metal & strings for a march with a certain flavour along streets full of life, accompanied with heartfelt songs full of feeling which transform lament to happiness, pain to creative expression and desperation to a yearning for a better future.
The Alabama Dixieland Jazz Band is not simply a copy of that which once was and remained behind. Their musicians bring to the present a culture that will form part of us for ever. And it is brought with enthusiasm, sensitivity, the colouring in staves of paper which are really much more than this: these are the paths along which our deepest & most beautiful emotions can travel.
