This coming weekend, which stages the Festival’s opening concerts, happens to coincide with Masterclasses given this year by the Jonathan Kreisberg Quartet. The members of this group are prestigious teachers of jazz, instructing at various important North-American educative centres - the leader Jonathan Kreisberg (guitar), Will Vinson (saxophone), Hans Glawischnig (contrabass) & Mark Ferber (drums). They will be held from 12:00 to 14:30 hours, on Friday 3rd at the “Conservatorio Superior de Música” in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and on Saturday 4th at the “Escuela de Música Yamaha” in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Yet another aspect of the Festival, organised especially for the islands’ musicians to be given the opportunity to get in touch with the experience & instructional methods used by jazz figures, and which has now become an extremely important training tool. It’s no open secret that in recent years the jazz festival “Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz & Más Heineken”, in view of the quality of its billing, has been forming part of Europe’s big jazz festivals circuit. This year, Chris Potter´s Underground, the Jonathan Kreisberg Quartet and Ari Hoenig, star guest artist performing with the guitarrist from Lanzarote Diego Barber and his quartet, will all be present on 10 July at the marathon North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam; as will The CTI All Stars, who participate this year at the 43rd edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

Only a few days since its launch, there have been over seven hundred admirers of the jazz festival - Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz & Más Heineken – in the social utility website Facebook.

Russell Malone is essentially an expert self-taught guitarrist with swing, who plays bebop and different genres of contemporary jazz. He began playing with Jimmy Smith, & Harry Connick Jr. and participated in the recording of Diana Krall’s first few discs. Apart from his quartet, he can frequently be seen performing with Dianne Reeves, Romero Lubambo & Ron Carter. He will also be seen playing at the Festival as yet another star performer in the Super-band who stage the closing concerrts of this year’s edition on 11 & 12 July, at the Tenerife Auditorium and Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, respectively.
