Emotion, beauty, brilliance… Many adjectives have been used to compliment this band led by the pianist & composer from Tenerife Alexis Alonso; a Canarian ensemble featuring top notch musicians with a common aim as set out in a message taken from their debut album IN,… “A humble attempt to capture that which is hidden beneath the surface of things”.
One of the characteristic features of the Alexis Alonso Quartet is its original formation within the jazz spectrum, considering that it includes a cello as an important feature of its overall sound. The feeling & sensitivity of the great cellist Ciro Hernández, the versatility & talent of Agustín Buenafuente on contrabass and one of the best drummers on the current jazz scene, Roberto Amor, gel together in an amazing cocktail that has moved along with the compositions by Alexis Alonso, a veritable magician on the piano, resulting in a really potent act.
Alexis Alonso’s professional career path is ample & varied; going from his beginnings in rock & jazz as a multi-instrumentalist (May Day, Siglo XXI & Nine Seconds Quartet), passing through his accomplishments as composer for movies sound tracks (nominated in 2015 for Nocturno at the festival Fimucité), until firmly settling down as he is nowadays, within the jazz panorama and contemporary music, following the success of two memorable piano-solo discs; the two volumes of his Piano Melodies for Adrián, El Paisaje (2014) and The Birth of Time (2016), composed after a personal tragedy. This would change for always the approach & career focus of this Canarian musician who would then do most of his work in the peace & quiet of his studio to resounding success, taking his brilliant achievments to several of the best venues in the world (London, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia…) and receiving unanimous approval by both critics and the public.
