The ‘Big Band de Canarias’ recently recorded their fourth CD, the former three being: Atlántida (96k Music, 2010), Elmer Bernstein: The Wild Side (Varese Sarabande, 2013) and Home Made (96k Music, 2015). This fourth CD is a monographic work by Kike Perdomo: music written by him and arranged for the Big Band by Soren Moller, a Danish composer & arranger, who resides in Copenhagen and has been Kike’s colleague in New York.
The ‘Big Band de Canarias’ was created in the year 2008, based on an initiative by Kike Perdomo & Yul Ballesteros and its foundation was to connect, in one way or another, Canarian musicians who studied & lived both on the islands and elsewhere. Always committed to its tradition, from their very formation, they have backed the concept of arranging & adapting local Canarian folklore to the format of a big band.
They have performed at a good number of concerts. To name but a few: the Madrid Jazz Festival, the Lugo Jazz Festival, ‘Luz de Gas’ in Barcelona, Palafrugell, Kölh (Cologne), Berlin, the International Jazz Festival of La Laguna, the ‘Canarias Jazz&Más Heineken’, ‘Rincón del Jazz’ (Jazz Corner) in Gran Canaria, Frontera in El Hierro, Santa Cruz de La Palma & Preludio in Garachico. It is only now, some eight years later, that they are beginning to achieve significant recognition.
They have collaborated with artists like Luis Morera, Olga Cerpa, Esther Ovejero & Chiqui Pérez on the vocal scene and with Sara Andon, Gerardo Núñez & Carmen Cortés on instrumental and dance.
