The band Fra! is made up of a group of young people from different backgrounds united by one language; the language of music. The name “Fra” comes from the Akan word which means “mix” and this is an analogous representation of the elements of fusion which is found in Ghananian music. “The music we produce is hinged on technical prowess, melodic phrasings and progressive roots based on our Afrocentric heritage”.
Formed in the year 2015 and with its base in Nungua, a suburb of Accra, the band began performing versions of songs by a variety of artists in their shows. Over the years, they have worked with many musical ensembles, Institutions and individuals in the entertainment industry; both on a formal and informal basis, who could vouch for their working ethics and quality of music. Among these are: The Piano Bar, Stanbic Jazz Festival, Ben Brako, King Promise, Yaa Yaa, Adomaa, Cina Soul, Kidi, Worlasi, Kojo Cue,
Epixode, Kyekyekyeku, Trigmatic, Joe Mettle, Pastor Edwin Dadson, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Efya, Maayaa & Kurl Songz.
The band has recently focussed on writing its own songs and on 10th August 2018 they released their first album, titled Fra!ternity. It features eleven numbers which cover a wide array of musical genres ranging from high-life, indie rock & soul. They employ a group songwriting process to ensure that the final work equally reflects the opinion of each member of the group. The band is currently focused on promoting its maiden album both within and outside Ghana.
