Gran Canaria Big Band
The Gran Canaria Big Band has become one of the most important ensembles in Spain. Since its creation in 1997, it hasn’t stopped producing projects, new repertoires, school concerts, tours, recordings, etc.
This year 2022, the Gran Canaria Big Band fulfils 25 years since its creation. It was formed in 1997 as the result of an undertaking by some local musicians who felt that a formation of these characteristics was missing in the area. It was for this reason that a group of teachers at the Music Conservatory of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria took the initiative to start with an ensemble that has become one of the most important in our country. This year it’s time to celebrate, and to do so a series of activities & concerts are being organised for the 25 years of this formation, ‘GRAN CANARIA BIG BAND at 25’.
The Gran Canaria Big Band has become one of the most important ensembles in Spain. Since its creation in 1997, it hasn’t stopped producing projects, new repertoires, school concerts, tours, recordings, etc. As well as this, it has performed with international artists that have placed the band at the same level as the most prestigious ones around anywhere. Kurt Elling, Paquito D ́Rivera, New York Voices, Perico Sambeat, Sole Giménez, Jamie Davies, Deborah Carter, Braulio, Cristina Ramos,… are a few of the artists who have participated together with the Gran Canaria Big Band in some of their projects.
The band that is presented here tries to summarize the 25 years history of the ‘Gran Canaria Big Band’. To this end they will perform a repertoire that is most representative of the band, together with those pieces that have most popularized this ensemble.
