This quintet features some of the best and most active musicians on the jazz scene in the Canaries and elsewhere. At the event they will play the band’s original numbers and also their versions of some classic contemporary jazz pieces. The audience will be treated to a repertoire with improvisation very much in mind; with swing in its most traditional sense as a base, but also Latin rhythms, complex fusions, ballads and some other experimental sound by the band.
Idafe Pérez (trumpet & flugelhorn) did his basic studies at the ‘Conservatorio Superior de Música’ (Higher Music Conservatory) in Tenerife, and later temporarily at the ‘Taller de Musics’ (Music Workshop) in Barcelona and ESMUC. He received tuition by Mathew Simon, Eladio Reinón, Joan Monne and others; as well as master classes by Bob Mintzer, Bobby Shew, Joe Magnarelli, David Liebman, Perico Sambeat, Avishai Cohen and a few more.
He has participated in a number of Jazz Festivals (Lugo, Getxo, Gijón, Terrassa, Barcelona, Canarias, Berlín…) and has collaborated with well-known and prestigious musicians & groups, such as Kike Perdomo and Big Band Canarias with Dick Oatts, Perico Sambeat Sexteto, Enrique Oliver, Ernesto Aurignac, Alfons Carrascosa & BAB Barcelona, Joe Morris, Cristobal Montesdeoca, José Angel Vera, Octavio Hernández, Ancor Miranda, José Alberto Medina, David Quevedo and Arturo Serra, among others.
He features with the Ramon Díaz Group in two discs on the ‘Fresh Sound Records’ label, on recordings with David Quevedo, Arturo Serra, Big Band de Canarias and also some productions by Kike Perdomo.
He is the co-creator of BitterBiscuit Canarian band of contemporary jazz, and collaborates with musical ensembles like Ricca, Ensemble Salvaje and Big Band de Canarias, with positive impact both within the archipelago as well as outside.
