Born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Mónica Santana started her singing & guitar studies at the age of eleven. Through one of her tutors, she was introduced to traditional Canarian music and participated in the folklore group called Tabona. There she shared the stage with singers like Olga Cerpa (Mestisay) & María Pérez (Encantadoras). After a spate of a few years dedicated to this type of music, she broadened her repertoire collaborating with local pop musicians participating in musicals, concerts, etcetera. Of note is her role in the recording of the disc Nana Enea by Ricardo Montelongo, where she formed part of the chorus. In the last few years, she decided to make a radical change and entered into the world of jazz, soul and blues – a style of music that was always present during her childhood. Although it clearly is in jazz that she has found her true vocation, so consequently she decided to expand her musical education, taking singing lessons with the tutor Radu C.G Milea and also attending harmony & musical combo classes.

After years of performing and developing, she decided to record her firsr disc as a composer. Under the production & musical direction of Miguel Ramírez & Miki Delgado respectively, she was able to record the disc, titled I’m gonna love you, featuring seven numbers of her own original work and two versions with very personal arrangements. They are pieces that contain the eclecticism of her musical tastes, but from the world of jazz: bossa, swing, bolero, blues, modern jazz etc. A work which clearly shows the good melodic style of her vocal quality but also in her daring venture, by taking an important step forward with arrangements & sound; thereby placing her in good stead as a jazz composer on the Canarian music scene.
