A young electric bassist who clearly knows her way around her instrument and plays like she has been inspired by the likes of artists Larry Graham, Louis Johnson and Marcus Miller; Nik West is also a highly expressive singer.
She started to gain popularity for her version of Back in Black by AC/DC. Lenny Kravitz said of her “I watched all her videos and was impressed, so he followed her progress closely, and when I released Teen Town, he wanted to meet me in person”.
West’s musical journey began in her hometown, Phoenix, Arizona. Her father, an accomplished guitarist, taught her how to play the rhythm guitar when she was just 13 years old. However, she discovered the bass was to be her instrument while listening for the first time to Michael Jackson’s Wanna be Startin’ Somethin’.
Nik grew up in a household filled with music and creativity, where her four sisters also played musical instruments – keys, drums, violin, and guitar; and together, they were her first ‘band’.
While working on her first album Just In The Nik Of Time, Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fell in love with her soulful voice, and reached out to her to work with him on several projects. From that moment on, she has worked with artists, such as Prince, John Mayer & Marcus Miller and also with the well-known producer Glen Ballard (Alanis Morissette, George Strait, and Michael Jackson).
