The Canarian pianist, composer & arranger Rayko León continues to produce his own projects. On this occasion he presents a disc performed by a jazz quartet and recorded in London in August 2018, having played at a number of venues in that city. With collaboration from the maestro Renato D ́Aiello in the musical production, this recent work builds a new two-way bridge between the Canary Islands and London. The album moves in a different direction to those previously recorded by the pianist, and contains nine original compositions of Canarian inspiration combined with his impressions of the UK’s capital city.
For the recording, Rayko opted for a classic acoustic sound, obtaining this with the support of musicians Renato D ́Aiello (tenor sax), Nicola Muresu (contrabass) and Alfonso Vitale (drums), masters in their own right on the London & international jazz scene.
The Canarian artist, having graduated from the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias (Canaries Higher Conservatory of Music), made his professional debut on his native island in the year 1994. His musical journey has taken him to play internationally in countries, such Cuba, Brasil, Mexico, Germany. France, Switzerland, England, Italy, Morocco, Spain … As a composer & musician, Rayko binds together many & varied influences which range from barroque music to modern jazz and fusion, touching on Latin, Cuban, Afro-Cuban & Brazilean music, apart from the traditional type from his native land.
In addition, he has had the opportunity to perform, record and share musical experiences with jazz musicians of the calibre of Perico Sambeat, Eric Marienthal, Paquito D ́Rivera, Bill Dobbins, Bill Evans, Bob Sands, Chris Kase, Deborah Carter, Judy Niemack, Deelee Dubé, Andrea Motis, Joan Chamorro, Jamie Davis, Aubrey Logan, Rex Richardson, “Latino” Blanco, David Pastor, Laura Simó, Carme Canela, Renato D ́Aiello, Celia Mur & Andrea Tofanelli.
