Hermerto PascoalEntrance tickets for thirteen concerts at the twentyfifth edition of the Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz & Más Heineken are now on sale. The remainder of the concerts, which complete the programme for the Festival’s silver anniversary, amounting to thirtythree, are open-air and free entrance ones.

The first of the paying-entrance concerts feature two Canarian groups, the Samuel Labrador Trío and the Big Band de Canarias, who will perform at the Arafo Auditorium. Both will present their respective latest discs; Labrador’s trio perform the work created by the band’s leader, titled ‘Tempo Presente’ and the BBDC a a series of tracks arranged precisely for an ensemble of this type. Both bands will play pieces composed by themselves. Entrance tickets are available via  www.entrees.es

China Moses ‘Breaking Point’ and the Charles Lloyd New Quartet, will perform at the Adán Martín Auditorium in Tenerife and the Guiniguada Theatre in Gran Canaria on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 July respectively. Moses is considered quite a unique vocalist of her generation and is beginning to write her part in the history of vocal  jazz in the XXI century. For his part, Charles Lloyd is a saxophonist of solid stock whose music is not just entertainment; it represents a powerful expression of beauty relayed by the subtle use of his chords.

The Jorge Pardo (Huellas) Quartet & Hermeto Pascoal are two maestros of fusion of flamenco (Pardo) and Brazilean music (Pascoal) with jazz. Few musicians have had the ability to incorporate metal instruments (sax & flute) in the flamenco language as Jorge Pardo has done; his music is pure art. As for Pascoal, the great  Miles Davis once said –  that if he was born again, he would like to be Hermeto Pascoal. This multi-instrumentalist is considered one of the musical geniuses of the XX century.

These two jazz titans will take the stage at the Pérez Galdós Theatre in LPGC on Wednesday 13 July and the following day, Thursday 14 will travel to Tenerife for their performances at the Leal Theatre in La Laguna. Entrance tickets are available via www.entradas.com and www.entrees.es, respectively.

Change in the concert by Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah

Adjustments in the New Orleans artist’s diary have prompted the Festival’s organisers to modify the performance of “Jazz’s young style God” (according to the magazine ‘JazzTimes’. Considered one of the progenitors of Stretch Music, a genre that stretches jazz rhythmic, melodic and harmonic conventions to encompass as many other musical forms, languages and cultures as possible. Scott will perform on Wednesday 20 July at the CICCA in the capital city of Gran Canaria. Entrance tickets via http://www.generaltickets.com/cicca/
