During the last two decades, bassist, singer, composer & jazz innovator Avishai Cohen, has gained the reputation of being one of the best bassists of his time. His compositions & arrangements reflect a wide musical world and cover a vital mixture of traditions, cultures, languages & styles, from Hebrew & Ladino folklore songs to pulsating original contemporary jazz. Following the successful release of Almah (Warner / Parlophone, 2013), a unique project that combined a trio and string quartet, Avishai has taken a step forward in the past few years and has even played his pieces with a complete symphony orchestra. It is the culmination of this musical journey that joins two worlds: classical & jazz.

‘A Night with Avishai Cohen Two Roses’  features his dynamic trio of contrabass, drums & piano, while the authentic & sophisticated integration of a symphony orchestra gives the Cohen’s distinctive sound an added dimension. The programme includes contemporary jazz configurations & musical compositions from Cohen’s world, orchestrated traditional Hebrew-Ladino songs & classical works, while the arrangements cover configurations for solo, trio & complete orchestra performances. The result is a stimulating & intimate musical experience, but with great impact.

The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra is one of the most prestigious musical institutions in Spain due to its trajectory, history, quality and innovative character over the years and is the loudspeaker of Tenerife society both inside and outside our island. Created in 1935 as the Chamber Orchestra of the Canary Islands, it is a cultural project of the Cabildo of Tenerife, the administration on which it depends.

Antonio Méndez is currently the principal conductor of the orchestra, and under the slogan “Siempre Contigo” (Always with you) he outlines the main lines of a season marked by social distance, but with the commitment of a permanent closeness to the citizens.
